Year 12 Geography

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr D. Reeve, Ms L. Bruce-Miller, Ms V. Johnston.

Geography is he study of how people interact with the environment. It seeks to interpret the world and how it changes over time. This course will explore the relationships and connections between people and both natural and cultural environments. Geography investigates the ways in which features are arranged on the Earth’s surface and help to understand and explain the patterns and processes that create them. Students learn to use maps, visual images and to analyse information. Geography helps students to make sense of a complex and changing world and their place in it.

Topics Include:

Geographic Issues: The use of 1080 in New Zealand

Spatial Patterns: The global pattern f coral reefs and the urban pattern of crime in Chicago

Geographic Skills: Map, diagram and graph interpretation skills

Research: Analysing climate, relief, soil and vegetation data in the Abel Tasman National Park
