Year 13 Geography
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Mr D. Reeve, Ms L. Bruce-Miller, Ms V. Johnston.
Geography is he study of how people interact with the environment. It seeks to interpret the world and how it changes over time. This course will explore the relationships and connections between people and both natural and cultural environments. Geography investigates the ways in which features are arranged on the Earth’s surface and help to understand and explain the patterns and processes that create them. Students learn to use maps, visual images and to analyse information. Geography helps students to make sense of a complex and changing world and their place in it.
Topics include:
Geographic issues: Forestry slash in New Zealand
Geographics skills: Maps, diagrams, graphing and interpretation skills
Spatial patterns: The global pattern of Marine Piracy
Research: Spatial variations and coastal processes at Wharariki and Farewell Spit
Course Contributions:
There may be opportunity during the year for students to complete an overnight trip to Farewell Spit and the surrounding area. ($150 - TBC).
This subject is University Entrance Accredited.
