Year 13 Textiles Technology

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Ms S. Turner.

Course Description: This course gives students a great deal of freedom to develop their interest, knowledge and skills in the many aspects of textiles and fashion. They are encouraged to become a self-directed learner, who will use a creative and practical approach to design and construct a textile item or garment of their choice. The only constraints are that they must work with a client or towards a stated personal need. The Achievement Standards that assess student’s work focus on several aspects, such as the designing of the project, the development of ideas as well as developing complex applied designs such as screen printing, applique or embroidery to a high standard.

Assessment:   Most work is internally assessed with External Standards available for course endorsement at Merit or Excellence.

Prerequisites: Minimum 6 NCEA Level 2 Soft Materials Technology credits or prior approval from Teacher-in-Charge.

Course Cost: $20 for base fee. Additional costs will apply depending on individual projects that are designed and constructed. Own  textiles can be provided from home.
